Carole Durbin

Carole Durbin is a senior partner in the Auckland office of law firm Simpson Grierson. She joined the EQC Board in June 2001. She is also deputy chairman and audit committee chairman of Mighty River Power, chair of the Legal Services Agency and a director of Fidelity Life. She is a committee member of the Auckland branch of the Institute of Directors and a panel member of both the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute and LEADR.

Tim McGuinness

Tim McGuinness has been on the EQC Board since June 2001. He has held senior executive positions in the New Zealand fund management industry for over 15 years and has been involved with managing investment funds for over 25 years. Mr McGuinness is currently a member of the Government Superannuation Fund Authority Board and a trustee of the Global Retirement Trust.

Neville Young

CHAIRMAN
Neville Young has been an EQC commissioner since July 1997 and was first appointed chairman in July 1998. He is also chairman of the Rulings Panel of the Electricity Commission of New Zealand and a lawyer.

Michael Wintringham

DEPUTY CHAIRMAN
Michael Wintringham was appointed deputy chairman of the Earthquake Commission on June 1. He retired as State Services Commissioner in May. Prior to joining the State Services Commission he had been chief executive of the Ministry of Housing and before that Assistant Auditor General.

Taari Nicholas

Taari Nicholas was appointed to the EQC Board in June 2001 and is a chartered accountant with extensive experience in funds management and investment banking. He is regional director for Aegis Private Capital Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based investment bank. He is a director and audit committee chairman of Transmission Holdings Ltd. He is also a director of a number of private companies.

Jeremy Dwyer

Jeremy Dwyer has been an EQC commissioner since June 2001. He was mayor of Hastings from 1986 to 2001 and has served as a Hawke’s Bay regional councillor. He chaired the Civil Defence Emergency Management Group in his home region between 2001 and 2004. An educator by profession, Mr Dwyer’s involvement spans 15 years in the primary and secondary sectors, including as a school principal and in school governance.

George Hooper

George Hooper is a professional engineer and executive director of the Centre for Advanced Engineering (CAE) in Christchurch. The CAE is an independent centre that encourages the application of advanced engineering and technology in New Zealand. He was appointed to the EQC Board in October 2001.
