Bogus Earthquake Inspector

A man posing as an EQC Loss Adjustor has been reported gaining entry under false pretences to houses in the Gisborne area.

Gisborne Police have told the Earthquake Commission that a resident contacted them after becoming suspicious about the behaviour of a man who said he was visiting to check her property for earthquake damage.

“We have about 40 loss adjustors working in the area at this time,” said EQC’s insurance manager, Lance Dixon.  “All are readily identifiable by the yellow vests they wear.  These vests have ‘Earthquake Commission’ printed on the back and ‘EQC’ on the front.”

“All loss adjustors should be able to produce satisfactory identification.  If anyone is in any doubt they should deny the person entry and ring us on  0800 508 765.”
