EQC sets up field office in Invercargill
29 October 2007
The Earthquake Commission (EQC) has set up an office in Invercargill in order to handle the claims generated by the magnitude 6.7 earthquake near Milford on October 16. The Commission has received 433 claims to date and expects more to come in.
Loss adjusters, estimators and claims administrators are being brought in from around New Zealand to ensure claims are settled as quickly as possible.
EQC’s insurance manager, Lance Dixon, says people who have damage that could be a claim should ring EQC on 0800 326 243. “The EQC number is free for both land-line and mobile users,” he says.
Holders of current home and/or contents insurance automatically have EQC cover for damage caused by earthquakes.
“EQC’s insurance cover applies to holiday homes as well as to permanent homes,” Lance Dixon says. “The Earthquake Commission Act allows people up to three months to make a claim. This gives holiday home owners, who could go for a while without visiting their property, time to check for damage,” he says.
