150 EQC Claims from Aftershocks

27 December 2010

The Earthquake Commission has received 150 claims from the current spate of Canterbury earthquake aftershocks.

“The aftershocks will be treated as a new earthquake, says EQC chief executive, Ian Simpson.

“That means that people whose property was damaged by the quakes will have three months to lodge their claim and there is no need to rush home to check if they are away,” he says.

“EQC staff are working on claims of those we know are at home during the holiday period and from Monday 17 January will resume our normal suburb-by-suburb assessment process.

“If you are on holiday between now and 16 January you will not be affected i.e. you will not lose your place in the queue," he says.

"Call centres will remain staffed 24 hours a day and seven days a week right through the period.”
