EQC paying $7.5m per week in contents claims

18 October 2011

New data released by the Earthquake Commission shows contents claims are being settled to the value of $7.5m per week, EQC customer services general manager Bruce Emson says.

About $30m in claims were settled in the four weeks to 14 October.
EQC is guaranteeing to pay out all completed claims by Christmas, if they are with EQC by 24 October.

EQC is currently processing about 38,000 contents claims, but many more are awaiting customer action, such as a completed Schedule of Contents, receipts or other supporting documents.

“It can be a big job to itemise all the household contents damaged by the quakes in the past 14 months, but the sooner our customers provide the paperwork, the sooner we can get about processing their claim,” says Mr Emson.

“EQC is running clinics to help customers, such as the elderly, who may have difficulty getting the necessary supporting documents together. Customers can get information on these by calling 0800 DAMAGE (0800 326 243).”
