New Deputy Chairman for EQC

11 June 2004

Michael Wintringham has been appointed deputy chairman of the Earthquake Commission. He replaces Jeff Todd who has retired after seven years on the EQC Board.

Mr Wintringham retired as State Services Commissioner in May. Prior to joining the State Services Commission he had been Chief Executive of the Ministry of Housing and before that Assistant Auditor General.

Most of his career has been in the public service, apart from a period of five years from 1986 when he was the director of Hay Management Consultants' Wellington office.

He spent a large part of his time in the public service with Treasury, including a four-year stint as economic counsellor at the New Zealand embassy in Washington DC and three years with the Prime Minister's department in the early nineties.

Mr Wintringham's appointment brings the total number of EQC commissioners to seven. The other commissioners are Neville Young (chairman), Carole Durbin, Jeremy Dwyer, George Hooper, Tim McGuinness and Taari Nicholas.
