Bay of Plenty floods and earthquakes
19 July 2004
The Earthquake Commission is urging owners of property damaged by landslips and earthquakes in the Bay of Plenty to lodge claims with them as soon as they can. If a property has general insurance, it probably has insurance cover with EQC.
The claims number is freephone 0800 652 333.
Please lodge your claim within 30 days of the date the property was damaged.
In the meantime, people should make temporary repairs for safety or to prevent further damage, immediately repair essential services e.g. toilets and water systems, keep everything that is replaced and keep a copy of the bill, clean up spillages and breakages but not throw out anything unless it is perishable, and dispose of perishables such as food items but keep a list.
If possible, photos of damage should be taken.

As of Monday afternoon, EQC had received 165 claims for earthquake and flood-related land damage. The estimated cost of these claims is just over $1.8 million.
