Biennial Contestable Grants Programme

Call for Applications

APPLICATION FOR RESEARCH GRANTS 2012

The Earthquake Commission (EQC) actively promotes and encourages research and education about matters relevant to natural disaster damage and ways of reducing, or preventing it.  Every two years, EQC awards research funding to individuals or groups with expertise in physical and social sciences and advanced engineering, through a contestable grants programme of public good research (EQC Biennial Grants Programme).

It should be noted that EQC wishes to mark the 2010/11 Canterbury earthquakes by focussing its 2012 round of funding on the data and information that the Canterbury earthquakes will yield, and the needs they will prioritise. This includes research to inform a revision of EQC's earthquake hazard model, Minerva.

Applicants are required to state the objectives of the proposed project, give an estimate of cost, and set out the perceived benefits and relevance of the research in the preliminary application form.

Applicants whose research projects are considered appropriate for further evaluation will be invited to submit a more detailed proposal with supporting documentation.

The closing date for preliminary applications is 29 April 2011.  Application inquiries should be addressed to:
