Biennial Contestable Grants Programme 2012 Timetable

March 2011

A call for preliminary research proposals on defined topics related to natural disasters is circulated to organisations and individuals with a known interest in the field. The call is also advertised in the four main newspapers. The closing date is Friday, 29 April 2011.

A two-page preliminary application form and guidelines for eligibility is sent to all researchers expressing an interest.

Early April

EQC selects research panellists.

Early May
The preliminary proposals are sent to the Research Panellists for initial assessment.
Late June/Early July

The Research Panel meets to select a short list of the most promising proposals.

Short-listed applicants are provided with a detailed proposal form for completion and provision of further information to allow an effective evaluation of the proposal. A submission guide accompanies the proposal form.

Applicants are also provided with information on the funding agreement EQC will offer if the project is approved for funding.

If appropriate the Panel advises applicants on proposal modifications that may increase the likelihood of selection for EQC funding. These include modifications that may improve potential outcomes. Applicants may also be advised to reduce funding requests by means such as modified objectives and/or obtaining increased alternative support. In some cases close collaboration or integration with another proposal may be recommended.

The deadline for detailed proposals is Wednesday, 31 August.

July / August

Report to Board on short list.

Early September

Referees' brief comments are sought.

Detailed proposals, supporting documents and referees' comments are sent to Panellists for review and evaluation.

Late October

The Panel meets to make a final selection of proposals for recommendation for funding to the Research Committee.

November /  DecemberRecommendation to Board on funding for biennial grants.
December

EQC funding agreements are submitted to successful applications for execution.

January 2012
Funding can commence.
