University post graduate proposals
The Commission believes there is great value in the major involvement of talented graduate students in university research. They bring drive, enthusiasm and innovation to projects, which can produce important advances with expert guidance and input. Student involvement is also important for the development of human resources and the advancement of education in New Zealand.
It has been found that the EQC biennial research funding programme sometimes excludes very worthy university research proposals because they are not able to be submitted at the time specified. Such projects often depend on the involvement of a graduate student with particular skills and talents.
Accordingly the Commission has made a fund available to selected applicants for worthy non-schedule university projects involving post-graduate students.
The selection of non-schedule university proposals is subject to substantially the same criteria and an equally rigorous selection process as the biennial proposals. A proposal will be assessed by an interacting group composed of members of an independent EQC research panel.
Project funding will normally be limited to a maximum of $30,000 per project per year, and project duration to a maximum of three years.
