On-sold property register of interest form

If you’ve bought a home in Canterbury and discovered that it is damaged over the EQC cap, you may be eligible for an ex gratia payment to cover the cost of repair. Please use this Register of Interest form if you believe you meet all of the following:

  1. You purchased a property after 4 September 2010 and prior to 15 August 2019, and that property was damaged during the Canterbury Earthquake Sequence;
  2. Before purchasing the property the previous owner settled a claim with EQC on an under-cap basis;
  3. Post-sale the property has been found to have incomplete or insufficient earthquake repairs either as a result of defective repair or through damage which had not been properly assessed;
  4. The cost to repair the earthquake damage now exceeds EQC’s statutory liability (over-cap); and
  5. The private insurer does not accept your claim for the repair costs that are above EQC’s statutory liability.

If you believe that you meet all of the above criteria, please register your interest by 15 August 2020.
