Make a contents claim

From 1 July 2019, EQC will no longer cover contents, affecting policy holders on the anniversary date of their existing policy (which is generally the annual renewal date), or if you take out a new policy.

Here are the steps to follow if you want to claim for damage to your contents.

1. Lodge your claim

Contact EQC to make a claim, or fill in the online claim form

2. Then fill out the Contents form

After you've got your claim number, complete the Schedule of Contents form.

Call us on 0800 DAMAGE (0800 326 243) if you'd like us to post you a Contents form.

Tips for filling out the form

  • List each item that was damaged.
  • If you can, include the make, model and serial number of electronic items.

  • Photograph the items (if you're able to), clearly showing the damage.
  • Attach valuations, quotations and receipts for items of significant value (ie, greater than $500). Your retailer will have records for new items you have purchased.

The more information you can provide, the better.

  • Attach your bank account details, such as a bank deposit slip or your bank account number on bank stationery (eg, a bank statement), so we can pay you directly into your account.
  • Check that you've written your claim number on the Schedule of Contents form, and write it on any documents (eg, photos, valuations, receipts) that you're sending in.

3. Send in all your paperwork

Send the completed Schedule of Contents form, and your additional documents, to:

Contents Team
Earthquake Commission
PO Box 311
Wellington 6140.
