EQC wins Business Transformation category at the NZ CIO Awards

The Earthquake Commission (EQC) has been recognised by industry experts at this year’s New Zealand CIO Awards(external link)

The prestigious awards recognise the individuals, teams and businesses who have shown leadership, innovation and foresight in their contribution to ICT and business in New Zealand.

The Business Transformation through Digital and IT Award, presented online last night, celebrates EQC’s innovative use of digital technology to achieve a data centric, collaborative and first-of-its-kind initiative with the Natural Disaster Response Model (NDRM).

In 2021, EQC partnered with eight private insurers to establish the response model that leverages existing sector capability and expertise to meet the needs of New Zealanders when the next natural disaster occurs. It sees private insurers work directly with customers on EQC’s behalf to provide a streamlined customer response with a single point of contact and end-to-end claims management.

EQC has developed a robust quality assurance system for the NDRM to provide strong oversight and the ability to monitor and manage insurer partners' performance.

“Aotearoa New Zealand is a land at risk of many different types of natural hazards. The NDRM has improved our capacity to manage claims both now and in the future, and simplified the process for customers,” says EQC’s Chief Data Officer, Jaron Shaw.

“We are extremely honoured and believe this is a testament to our focus on ensuring our customers are at the heart of everything we do.”

“Our commitment to ensuring our services, systems and operations will remain fit for purpose for New Zealanders has never been stronger. We’re proud to be among those making a difference.”

To all the other winners and finalists, well done.
