Media coverage about repair quality

Any earthquake repairs carried out as part of the Canterbury Home Repair Programme by EQC that are found to have not been up to Building Code standard will be remedied.

A survey of earthquake repairs in around 100 Canterbury homes has been carried out by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

Most but not all of the homes surveyed were part of the Canterbury Home Repair Programme (CHRP).

The report about the survey has not yet been finalised but what we do know is that MBIE has found no issues that pose any safety risk to homeowners or occupants.

The survey has identified some shortcomings with some underfloor repairs.

There’s no need for homeowners who have had a managed repair through CHRP to do anything at this stage.

Starting this month, EQC and Fletcher EQR will be contacting the owners of the homes where we need to address any potential issues raised by the MBIE report

If any earthquake repairs are found to be non-compliant with the Building Code then we will make sure any remedial work is carried out at no cost to EQC customers.
