Floods

April floods

In early April, parts of the North Island experienced large amounts of rain due to Cyclone Debbie. This resulted in flooding, particularly in the Bay of Plenty. An event has been established to manage the expected claims from landslip damage.

A shallow magnitude 4.7 earthquake rocked parts of the South Island on Monday night - 1 June 2015.

Wanaka earthquake

Wanaka, in New Zealand's South island, was shaken at 2.29pm on Monday 4th May, by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake hitting 30 kms north west of the town at a depth of only 5kms.

St Arnaud Earthquake

At 1.40am on 26 February 2015, a 4.6 earthquake was detected 45km east of St Arnaud, in the Tasman District, at a depth of 24km.

More than 30 aftershocks quakes were recorded by Geonet since the major magnitude-6.0 quake hit the South Island at 6.48am, 6 January 2015, centred about 30km west of Arthur's Pass.
