Great Barrier Island residents who suffered damage to their land during the storm of 11 June should lodge their claim now with the Earthquake Commission (EQC).

If a home, or the surrounding land, has been damaged by the recent storm, EQC covers land only. The private insurer will cover house and contents damage, according to the terms of the policy. Where there has been landslip damage, EQC covers homes, contents and land.

Although people normally have three months to lodge a claim, lodging a claim now would help ensure assessment of their damage during an EQC team visit to the island in July.
